MSBA UMPIRE PROGRAM

 

At any age and any level of competition, umpiring is an excellent opportunity to be an vital part of the game. There are many benefits to becoming a certified umpire in Ontario:

How To Become An Umpire For The 2023 Season

 

All umpires in Ontario are certified by Baseball Ontario, with local associations such as the Mississauga Southwest Baseball Association guiding umpires through this process.

 

There is no minimum age requirement to become an umpire. Umpire will require ability to travel to nearby diamonds, as well as their own email address to remain in contact with the Umpire-In-Chief. (Parents can be copied on communications.)

 

If you want to umpire in Ontario in 2023, you must:

1. Create an account at https://ondeck.baseballontario.com/

2. Using your On Deck account, register for, and complete online learning modules appropriate to your level of certification (brand new umpires are level 1.1)

3. Using your On Deck account, register for, and attend, an in-person clinic. There are clinics being held in Mississauga on April 29th, 2023, however umpires can attend any clinic across Ontario that is appropriate for their level.

 

UMPIRES INTERESTED IN WORKING GAMES FOR MSBA IN 2023 SHOULD CONTACT ADAM DE CAIRE, MSBA’s UMPIRE-IN-CHIEF ONLY ONCE THE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS LISTED ABOVE ARE COMPLETED.

Adam De Caire

Adam De Caire is a Level 5 umpire, and Senior Course Conductor certified by Baseball Canada. Adam has umpired at five Baseball Canada National Championships, and served as a Umpire Supervisor at one championship. In 2022, Adam received an international recommendation from Baseball Canada to be added to the World Baseball Softball Confederation roster of officials for international competition. In addition to his role with MSBA, Adam is a member of the Baseball Ontario Umpires Committee.
